I read this email one Christmas from MamaLee and was truly touched. I hope you each enjoy reading about what Christmas means to her in this beautiful letter.

Christmas time is here and with only a few days before the special day, last minute preparations are being made. Every room in my house is decorated, yes even the bathrooms. Christmas is my favorite holiday.

I can still get a whiff of the lingering smell of fresh baked cookies that I made and decorated with my grandkids yesterday. The cookies have been delivered to my neighbors wishing them blessings and good cheer.

Christmas music plays as I write this letter. I’m rushing to finish my Christmas shopping. As I’ve contemplated ideas for the hard to buy on my list. I’ve seen posts on social media with people getting a box with a key. That causes one to wonder whether it’s the key to a home, new car, a safe or even someone’s heart. These tangible keys hold great promise, meaning and love, offering a fresh start and a new chapter.

Imagine getting the keys to your own home. A place to carry your wife over the threshold, to bring your newborn babies home from the hospital, to barbecue with friends and family, and raise your family and nurture and protect them. A place to put up your own Christmas tree and bake cookies.

The keys to a new car could provide a safe reliable way to be able to get to work, take your children to school, their games, medical appointments or even date nights. It would provide safety and freedom.

The keys to a safe could have gold, coins, cash, firearms, or titles for houses or vehicles. These things could provide financial security and ways to protect and defend your family.

The key to someone’s heart is the way that we express our love and commitment and conveys we are giving at the deepest level, our all.

The key that truly holds the power to transform lives, that encompasses all of those keys and provides a home and also a way to get us there. This is a place where we are provided security, freedom, nurturing, protection, peace, hope, and love. A place where all of our treasures are stored.

This key was given to us on the first Christmas. It’s the key to Heaven and it was delivered to us through a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes. It is the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the ultimate gift, the key to unlocking the greatest transformation of all—our salvation.

Just as a key can open a door to new possibilities, the gift of Christ opens the door to eternal life, offering us hope, love, and a life changed forever.

My son Marc gave his life so that we could experience freedom here on Earth. As a mother who has lost a hero, I understand the true weight of sacrifice. But just as Marc’s ultimate sacrifice was life-changing, even greater is the gift of Jesus—whose sacrifice on the cross made it possible for us to experience eternal life and indescribable joy.

If you received a gift with a key wrapped perfectly in a box and you left it under the tree and never opened it, you wouldn’t experience the love and joy that would come with unlocking what the key gives to you or the love from the giver. Marc had opened that gift, the key to Heaven. He believed Jesus Christ was his LORD and Savior. He has experienced the entry into Heaven that was provided by that key. He is worshipping and celebrating with the angels. I believe as well, and when my time here is finished and God calls me home I will see him again. I know Marc would encourage you to open the gift that holds your key to Heaven.

This Christmas, may we all embrace the true Key—the gift of Jesus. His birth and His sacrifice unlock the door to a life that is not only changed in the here and now but forever. That is the greatest gift we could ever receive, and it is one that brings us true peace, hope and joy.

Merry Christmas, with love and hope in the Key of Christ, who changes everything.
