Middle Of Nowhere

Transitioning from most jobs or seasons in life usually comes with a clear ending—you can leave and start something new. This was different. It affected every day, living constantly in the mind and soul, touching every aspect of life. Imagine not leaving your house for months on end, not even to go to Walmart…

This was Landon’s reality. In 2015, he left the military and his team. But instead of finding closure, it felt like the beginning of a new battle. He struggled with nightmares, sleepless nights, panic attacks, depression, and a loss of desire to live. He wrestled with sadness, frustration, and a temper fueled by unprocessed pain, reaching a point where he didn’t want to fight the mental battle anymore.

He lost everything: a good paying job, drank a lot and isolated. In fact, looking at the life of the guys he grew up around and how normal their lives were he actually began to wish he had never joined the military.

At rock bottom, a few of his military teammates stepped in, saying, “We got you.” Through their support and therapy at the VA, Landon began to heal. Today, he credits those conversations and interventions with saving his life.

Years later, he’s paying it forward for other veterans, especially those who have faced combat and the struggles that can follow. Understanding the pain firsthand and having lost military friends to suicide, Landon wanted to create a safe space to prevent others from suffering alone. His vision became an expense-paid weekend retreat for teams who served together—a chance to reunite, support each other, and process their shared experiences.

The retreats take place in the middle of nowhere in Lewis County, Kentucky. Activities include kayaking, fishing, cornhole, horses, and axe throwing. But for many veterans, the real highlight is simply sitting around the firepit, talking, and reconnecting.

For participants, the emotional reunions with their team—sometimes years later—are the most meaningful part. They also have opportunities to network, find jobs, and gain a reliable support system. These retreats (in the middle of nowhere) give veterans something to look forward to each year and remind them they are never truly alone – the same way that Landon was once reminded.

He totally destroyed my mental health. Always thought I could trust this guy. Then one day he asked me to be the first nominee for this organization Warrior Ridge. I even helped him name it. You see he was always interested my guys DFBF stories from the invasion of iraq. Fast forward and even after not being sure I could trust him getting the guys that meant so much to me together I did. We had two great reunions out of all the reunions we were supposed to get for our whole life…you see he while at my house acting as a mentor and even sometimes councilor of WR was sitting right across from me sending
sending creepy inappropriate messages to her on fb. My team and I immediately reached out to the chain of command at WR and blocked and deleted, thrown away like trash. Screenshots available online. Several other reviews from the first team DFBF. This guy isnt to be trusted in the veteran community. Sincerely

Supposed to say.. sent inappropriate messages to my spouse…all screenshots available. When we went to chain of command they simply said he couldn’t resign because it would fail without him. So they blocked us and he continues to be a creepy dude and drunk..warning to veterans every where. When he messes up you and your team youll pay with no answer from anyone. Just a lil research online brings it all to light …if this gets dosent get posted because there is no hate here ot will just be complete censorship but still screenshoted and documented. Thanks

Thank you Grace for sharing this story of triumph over trials. It is truly commendable for one to serve their country and then to continue serving veterans after they are discharged. Thank you to all who served and are still serving our country.

Im a member of the DFBF team the first group to go through warrior Ridge. Our nominee was betrayed by Landon Bently. There is solid proof that Landon Bently did indeed try to get with our nominees wife. After knowing each other for 15 years Landon Bently thought this was okay to do to not only a brother but a veteran who already suffers from mental health. Landon Bently cannot be trusted he is a predator of people want people to think he is a victim. Our nominee and our team DFBF are the ones who fell victim to Landon Bently and his betrayal he is not who he appears to be he cannot be trusted with any veterans mental health. He is not healing veterans if he can do this to someone he has known for 15 years he would do anything to anybody. Do not trust Landon Bently. The truth about what he has done to our brother and our team DFBF must come out and be spoken for and take accountability for his actions and wrong doings.

    • DFBF says:

I mean why won’t they just take accountability? Could of been a great thing if it was ran by the right people.
