Don’t Dim Your Shine – Song (Day 5)

I never knew a moment would change everything.
The moment happened when we randomly met -as we waited for a mutual friend – and started talking. By the end of that one conversation with his wife on board – having never met before – he handed me the keys to where the first scenes would be filmed.
Somehow this raw weathered space looked eerie – almost identical to the one years before that we were reenacting. What was even more shocking was that it was even in the same town where the literal events happened.
This was just one of many moments that left me stunned. Moments where people – some I’d never even met before – and places aligned. I’m grateful for all of them.
Besides the moments of creating the song the message is very personal and filled with moments:
This song is about brokenness.
About pouring out everything in your heart through tears – when words fail.
Everything you have.
What you own.
Your reputation.
Your gifts.
And having nothing left.
It’s about the hurt, the pain, the real and raw kind of vulnerability.
Holding nothing back…
It’s the breaking point.
The point of no emotional return.
It’s based on the story of a woman in history who during a moment crumbled and broke open everything – her most prized possessions – at a man’s feet.
You can read more in my book – link below.
The story also reenacts my adopted brother, Michael Johnson’s story, as well as parts of my own journey (even including a moment 10 years ago this week). Maybe it’s yours too.
We’ve all been there in brokenness.
Or maybe we’re there now.
But this song is also about rising.
About shining.
About not dimming your shine..
Even if that shine comes from a shattered place.
A low place.
A messy place.
I hope this song reaches you wherever you are.
I hope in some way you can relate to these lyrics.
This whole week has been my alabaster.
I’ve poured everything I’ve had into it –
The book.
The painting.
The words.
These posts
And these songs.
It won’t resonate with everyone.
But for anyone, who has ever truly been there –
Or knows someone who has –
This song is for you.
-Grace
