Built Country, Savvy From The City
She’s carried a bail of hay,
Walked an alley in her day,
Built from the country,
Savvy from the city.
Healed from multiple broken hearts,
Missed a thousand flying darts,
Feels deeply what’s going on around,
Though at times, she doesn’t even make a sound.
Been a part of different worlds,
Felt the pain of perspectives hurled,
One conversation and moment at a time,
How can you be a part of so much, without hearing the chime?
She wants to see justice,
She wants to see peace,
She wants to feel healing,
For everything.
She wants to see love,
Change the world,
She wants to see freedom,
Help the hurting rise above.
She’s built from the country,
Savvy from the city.
How can you mix the country and the city,
How can you mix oil and water,
How can you mix love and justice,
How can you mix mercy and truth?
She’s built from the country,
Savvy from the city.
Healed from multiple broken hearts,
Missed a thousand flying darts,
Feels deeply what’s going on around,
Though at times, she doesn’t even make a sound.
It’s strength to lift what’s heavy,
It’s wisdom to go around the city,
It’s wild fields and pasture flowers,
It’s brick walls and urban showers.
It’s zoos and farms,
It’s gangs and barns,
It’s hip hop and western,
It’s jeans and fancy yarns.
She’s seen heaven and hell,
In both of these places,
She’s seen beauty and ashes,
She’s seen laughter and tears.
She’s felt the weight of the world,
She has felt distant and close,
Seen a child in need,
Had a conversation bring her to her knees.
It’s the difference between ground and sky,
It’s the difference between the valley and mountain high,
It’s the difference between broken and healed,
It’s the difference between a city and a field.
She’s seen heaven and hell in both of these places
And sometimes she stops to think.
She’s built from the country,
But she’s savvy from the city.
She’s healed from multiple broken hearts,
She’s missed a thousand flying darts,
She feels deeply what’s going on around,
Although at times, she doesn’t even make a sound.
How can you mix the city and the country,
How can you mix oil and water,
How can you mix love and justice,
How can you mix mercy and truth?
She’s built from the country,
Savvy from the city.
Oh yes, she’s built from the country,
But she’s savvy from the city.
